Intended as an export fighter nearly to match the F-16 in combat power but be significantly less expensive and far simpler to maintain, the Northrop F-20 has not been able to find any customers. Based on the F-5E Tiger, the design was so radically changed that the new F-20 designation was given to it. The aircraft is not currently in service, and is included as a 'what if'.
